Notting Hill Carnival 2013, Part 2 – Into the Night…

The sun slips drunkenly behind whitewash buildings slowly turning grey. Sound-systems fade down for another year and cobbled streets become makeshift beds for the weary, cots for sick – those too lost in smoke and drink to stagger any longer. People still gather, revelling in summer’s dusk, but the large crowds disperse as the grey turns to darkening blue and whispers echo in the streets of stabbings nearby and secret parties carrying on, somewhere in the warren round-and-about. Friends gather for one last drink, one last dance, one last photo and police ush stragglers away, whilst others just want to party into the night – the mad, bad or hungry Ne’er-To-Beds, trying to soak up the last rays of happiness Carnival has to offer… It’ll soon all be gone for another year… See you back here then, mate… Yeah, see you then…
