Location/About the area

Calvisson is twenty minutes from the historic Roman city of Nimes as well as the southern France’s cultural-hotspot-on-the-Med, Montpellier, both which have daily flights to and from the UK as well as regular connections to Eurostar via nearby Avignon. A few hours from both Barcelona and Nice, in the heart of the cultural and affordable region of Languedoc-Roussillon at the centre of southern coastal France, Calvisson is located near to the source of Perrier water and just south of the beautiful Cévennes mountain range where the Roquefort cheese caves are found, in the Petit-Camargue region, famous for its love of wine, horses, cattle and the sea, all of which add to the wonderful flavour of life in this unique area of France: endless vineyards, bull runs and cowboys on white horses, lavender fields and honey aplenty, as well as breathtaking, vast beaches, beautiful white stone villages straight out of French Cinema and a high value on the relaxed and good life, all go to make this area a wonderful place to both live and holiday.

Then & Now – The Building

As the drawing from 1890 below shows, the building was originally a wine store (Cave) for a local cooperative vineyard, Paulet & Brunel. The property for sale can be seen in the left two-thirds of the facing building in old drawing, (to-the-left-of-and-including the old archway.) The other buildings in the picture also still exist, as does the wall and gate, (although the drawing is not exactly to scale) forming a friendly, residential gated community with intercom in what was a great wine store for the whole area.

Vue Du Nos Caves (translated as: View Of Our Wine Stores), a drawing from 1890

As you can see, the original arched entrance is still in use, 125 years later, only now it can hold 3 cars rather than huge wine casks!
